THE FARM

WHERE THE FUNGI FUNK NEVER STOPS

THE STORY

Fun Guy Market wouldn’t be the same without Funky Fungi Farm. They provide the mushrooms, the inspiration, and a piece of our local food connection.

Rob and Priscilla have been running Funky Fungi Farm in South Hill, VA since 2019. They are

passionate about helping improve local agriculture and sustainable food production in the community.

Funky Fungi uses permaculture farming principles to raise mushrooms and more in a system that strives to sustain itself without outside input.

The mushrooms are not your typical foraged mushrooms. In order to bring you clean, healthy, pesticide-free food, the mushrooms are grown in a shipping container that was redesigned for mushroom funkiness. It’s equipped with a sterile fruiting room where mushrooms are cultivated and grow into delicious & clean blue oyster and lion’s mane mushrooms.

THE MUSHROOMS

BLUE OYSTER

Blue Oyster mushrooms are delicate and savory with a mild mushroom flavor. These have long thick stalks with tiny caps and are rich in high-quality proteins and amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin D, iron, and potassium. These mushrooms are great sautéed or in Asian soups. Did you know that blue oyster clusters start out with deep blue coloring that eventually turns grey as they age?

LION’S MANE

Lion’s Mane mushrooms are flavorful and have a meaty texture. They are white and globe-shaped with long, shaggy spines. Lion’s Mane is a great meat substitute and makes delicious crab alternatives. Research suggests that they may offer a range of health benefits, including reduced inflammation and improved cognitive and heart health.
